Therapy for depression in Denver, Colorado

Depression can make even small things feel heavy — getting out of bed, answering a text, caring about what used to matter. You don't have to push through it alone. We offer an authentic, nonjudgmental, brave, and safe space to work through depression, in person in Denver's Highlands or online anywhere in Colorado.

You're Not Lazy — You're Carrying Something

What depression can feel like

Depression rarely looks the way people expect. Sometimes it's deep sadness; often it's numbness, irritability, exhaustion, or a fog that makes it hard to think or decide. You might be sleeping too much or barely at all, withdrawing from people you love, or moving through your days on autopilot while feeling like you're failing at all of them. Many of the people we work with are still showing up — to work, to parenting, to friendships — while quietly running on empty. If any of this sounds familiar, it's not a character flaw and it's not something you should have to white-knuckle through. Depression is real, it's common, and therapy can help you understand what's underneath it and find your way back to yourself.

Our Approach

Is This You?

Depression therapy may be a good fit if…

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health — and no single way depression shows up. Therapy for depression might be the right fit if any of these sound familiar:

Everything feels heavy

Low mood, numbness, or hopelessness has settled in and won't lift on its own.

You've lost interest

Hobbies, people, and plans that used to matter don't spark much of anything anymore.

Your energy is gone

You're exhausted no matter how much you rest, and small tasks feel enormous.

You're hard on yourself

Guilt, self-criticism, or feeling like a burden runs on a loop in your head.

You're pulling away

You've been canceling plans, going quiet, and isolating from the people who care about you.

Life just changed

A loss, a breakup, a new baby, or another big transition has knocked the ground out from under you.

How We Work

Our approach to depression therapy

Wellness is not a destination, it's a journey — and we'll meet you where you are, even if where you are is "I don't know where to start." Our whole-person approach considers your mental health, physical health, relationships, and environment, and we draw on approaches with real evidence behind them:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) — noticing the thought patterns that feed depression and learning to respond to them differently.
  • Behavioral activation — small, doable steps back toward the activities, people, and routines that give your life meaning, even before motivation returns.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) — making room for hard feelings without letting them run the show, and reconnecting with what you value.
  • Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) — building on what’s already working, one manageable step at a time.

Sessions can also include our certified therapy dog Lola, whose calm, warm presence helps many clients feel more at ease. Whether you want a sounding board or some new tools for your tool belt, we'll work with you to shape therapy around your goals.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if what I'm feeling is depression?

You don't need a diagnosis to reach out. If low mood, numbness, exhaustion, or loss of interest has been getting in the way of your daily life, that's reason enough to talk to someone. In your first sessions, your therapist will help you understand what you're experiencing and what kind of support fits.

Who do you work with?

We work with children, teens, and adults in individual, couples, group, and family counseling. Whatever brings you in, we'll meet you where you are.

Where will we meet? How does telehealth work?

We can meet in person at our Denver office in the Highlands, at 2727 Bryant St Suite 610, Denver, CO 80211. For online sessions we use Telehealth by SimplePractice: we send a link to your phone or email, and all you need to do is get comfortable in a safe space, click the link, and join the video meeting.

How long are sessions?

We offer 50-minute sessions with an optional 30-minute add-on for an additional fee. We recommend attending at least once a week to start; depending on your needs, twice a week is possible. As you progress, we can move to bi-weekly or monthly maintenance sessions.

Do you accept my insurance?

We don't bill insurance directly, but we provide superbills you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement, and Mentaya can handle claim submission for you. We also accept HSA payments and Crime Victims Compensation from Gilpin and Jefferson Counties.

What if I'm having thoughts of suicide?

You deserve support, and you deserve it now. Our team includes specialized, CAMS-informed care for suicidality — you can learn more on our Suicidality page. If you’re in crisis right now, call or text 988, or reach Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-8255 or text TALK to 38255.

You don't have to carry this alone
