Therapy for Children & Teens

Therapy that meets kids and teens where they are

Growing up comes with big feelings, and sometimes those feelings get bigger than the tools a kid has to handle them. At Lola & Me Therapy, we work with children and teens in an authentic, nonjudgmental, brave, and safe space — one where they can be exactly who they are while they learn to understand their emotions, build confidence, and navigate whatever life is throwing at them. Sessions are available in person at our Denver Highlands office and online across Colorado.

Is This Right for Your Child?

When something feels off — and you're not sure what

You know your kid better than anyone. Maybe you've noticed more worry, more meltdowns, more closed doors — or maybe they've told you outright that things feel hard right now. Therapy can help when your child or teen is navigating:

  • Anxiety, worry, or anxious thoughts and patterns
  • School stress — grades, friendships, pressure, or feeling overwhelmed by the demands of school
  • Big emotions that are hard to manage, name, or talk about
  • Life changes like a move, a new school, a family shift, divorce, or loss
  • Low self-esteem or confidence, and family or peer conflict at home or in the classroom

You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to reach out. Sometimes a young person just needs a sounding board or some new tools for their tool belt — and a caring adult outside the family to help them find both.

How Sessions Work

Support that speaks their language

Play therapy for children

Kids don't always have the words for what they're feeling — but they do have play. Play therapy uses games, art, imagination, and movement to help children process experiences, practice emotional regulation, and build coping skills in a way that feels natural to them.

Real conversations for teens

Teen sessions look more like talk therapy, shaped around what your teen actually wants to work on. We listen without judgment, take their world seriously, and help them build practical skills for stress, relationships, identity, and everything in between.

Parents as partners

You're a key part of your child's support system, so we keep you in the loop. Depending on your child's age and goals, that can mean joining parts of sessions, regular parent check-ins, or tools to try at home — always balanced with the trust and privacy your child needs to open up. Many parents also find our Parent Support Sessions a helpful complement.

Optional therapy-dog support

For many kids and teens, a calm, friendly dog makes the therapy room feel a whole lot less intimidating. Families can choose to include animal-assisted therapy with Lola, our certified professional therapy dog, in sessions — a gentle way to ease nerves and build connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions parents ask us

What ages do you work with?

We work with children ages 8 and older, teens, and adults in individual, group, and family counseling. During your free consultation we’ll talk through your child’s age, needs, and goals to make sure we’re a good fit — and help you find the right therapist match.

Will I be involved in my child’s therapy?

Yes — in a way that fits your child’s age and goals. For younger children, parents are often part of the process through check-ins and at-home tools. For teens, we balance keeping you informed with giving them the private, judgment-free space they need to be honest. We’ll agree on how this works together at the start.

Where will we meet for therapy? Can my child do sessions online?

We can meet in person at our Denver office, conveniently located in the Highlands area, or by telehealth anywhere in Colorado. For online sessions, we send a secure video link through SimplePractice — your child just needs a comfortable, private space, and a click of the link to join.
